Greetings family ❤️,

Happy New Year! I hope the first week of the year has been good to you.

On my end, it’s been a bit all over the place trying to juggle everything and settle into a rhythm that actually feels sustainable. So far, so good though. With that said, let’s get straight into this week’s email.

Every year around this time, the noise gets louder.

New goals. New resolutions. Big announcements about who people are going to become.

And that’s exactly why talking about The Dark Horse matters more now than ever.

I’m sure by now you have probably noticed the dark horse symbolism and imagery I use in my work. It’s not accidental. The dark horse isn’t just a theme in my brand — it’s a way of operating.

The term comes from horse racing. A dark horse was the unexpected competitor — the one no one was betting on, barely talked about, often overlooked — who suddenly wins the race.

No hype. No spotlight. Just preparation meeting the moment.

That symbolism matters, especially now.

Because while most people get a hit of cheap dopamine from talking about their goals, the dark horse is in the background doing the hard things:

  • Showing up when motivation disappears.

  • Practicing when there’s no audience.

  • Choosing discipline over distraction.

A dark horse doesn’t announce their plans. They don’t chase applause for intentions. They don’t confuse movement with progress.

They work.

Quietly. Relentlessly. When no one is watching.

The world isn’t shocked by the bold announcement of your plans. It’s shocked by results.

And results are built in silence.

This year, resist the urge to broadcast every plan. Prioritize the uncomfortable work. The boring reps. The hard things that don’t post well.

Then when the time is right, let the results speak.

Be the dark horse.

Once again I am grateful to have you on this journey with me.
We’ll talk again soon.
Much love,

Cedric Turakira
